Back in May, on that Mother's Day Sunday, I gave my mom a nice little certificate stating that her gift would be coming sometime later during the summer. My plan was to take her to the Maison Lavande, a local producer of lavender for a visit of their installations and a pique-nique. Of course, we had to wait until the lavender was in full bloom!
Finally, at the end of July, from all account, the blooming was at its peak. So I packed our pique-nique and we left, my sister, my mom and her adorable Westie Lea and myself. The moment we stepped our of the car, we could smell the sent of lavender floating in the air. We arrived right around lunchtime and spread our blanket in the middle of one of the lavender field.
The purplish and bluish and even some white and light pink flowers of the different type of lavender made for a stunning view set against the deep green of the evergreen bordering the fields. All around were information panels, explaining the history of the site as well as facts about the different lavender and its culture. The staff onsite was also extremely knowledgeable and pleasant.
If you're not bringing your our pique-nique, a small outdoor café serves some sandwiches and salads and sweets as well as the staple lavender limonade. There's also two boutiques onsite; the gourmet boutique and beauty boutique. The gourmet boutique contains teas, jams and caramel spreads, cookies and preserves all containing lavender of course! In the beauty boutique, you can find perfumes, lotions, scrubs, body spays and mists, candles and essential oils. They have products for women, men and they even have a collection of products for dogs! Both boutique are situated in old barns that have been renovated (while preserving their original cachet, of course!).
All in all, we very much enjoyed our visit. It was absolutely stunning and they offer beautiful products. I will most definitely be going back! And finally, at the end of August, I'm sharing some picture of our outing. Until we can go back!
